VERITAE VERT

a cool blog

So I'm a very hairy person: aka I have a lot of hair. I grew up with obscenely thick hair that I would have to go to the hairdresser's to get it thinned out. It's a gorgeous blonde and I love it long. I love feeling like an ethereal mermaid!

I changed my routine recently and honestly my hair has never looked better!

- ROUTINE -

So I was my hair once a week and I Co-Wash, so I don't use shampoo only shampoo - but I do but a treatment in my hair for at least an hour before washing it. So I comb it out, put the treatment in and then just chill for a while. Then I wash it out, put my hair in braids to air dry and go to bed. So my hair gets this effortless beachy wave and its supa pretty.

To maintain my hair during the week...I work at a fast food restaurant so when I get home I smell of grease. So I use dry shampoo to give my hair a lil boost and so it doesn't have that smell anymore.

I don't style my hair and just let it do it's thing.

That's all! I have really shiny soft hair now and like I said before it's never looked better.

- PRODUCTS -

I use a sandalwood comb - it has a nice smell and detangles really well!

ORGANIX Argan Oil Conditioner

I swear by this stuff. It smells amazing and it makes my hair so soft.

LUSH Roots treatment

This treatment is for thin hair, but I use it anyway. I think taking care of your roots is so important, because everything needs a good base. It has a pleasant minty-tingly feeling and I really think that because of it - it's why my hair has been so healthy recently.

Not to mention LUSH is an absolutely amazing brand with great ethics so I'm so happy that my holy grail hair care product is one that I can use going into a natural beauty routine!!!!

BATISTE Original Dry Shampoo

I love the formulation of this as it gives my hair great volume and hides the stench of a fast food restaurant. I kind of want to try the tropical scent.

I usually don't wear makeup because I'm lazy and I think that almost everyone looks better without it. However when I do, I go for that french girl minimal/no-makeup look that just accentuates your best features. Mine being my eyes.

Most if not all of these products are not natural beauty brands, so it's going to be my mission to find dupes of these from more sustainable brands! But if I can't find one or I truly don't want another item - I will still use it.

80:20 baby!

- FACE -

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

I honestly cannot live without this stuff. Like if I had to use only one product, it would be this stuff. It glides on perfectly and matches my skin so well. I love it - it's truly a holy grail product.

BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid Highlighter in Moonstone

I use this as a sort of primer/foundation and it gives me a nice lil glo. A little goes a long way.

BENEFIT High Beam Liquid Highlighter

HOURGLASS Ambient Strobe Lighting Powder in Incandescent

These are self explanatory

- EYES -

NYX Epic Ink Liner in Black

This is a liquid liner with a point and I made my first cat eye with this. It is definitely waterproof and very black.

BENEFIT Gimme Brow in 03 Medium

Like the NARS concealer, this is one of my favorite products that I cannot live without. I have naturally shapped brows and this stuff really accentuates them. I love it.

- LIPS -

Lip Balm

My mom gave me this lip balm. It tastes like peaches and moisturizes well.

ANASTASIA BEVERLY HILLS Lipgloss in Metallic Rose

Smells amazing and has glitter!!!!! It's definitely my go to lip product.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Creme in San Paolo

This is my first liquid lipstick that I actually liked the color and formulation of. My signature color is a sort of dark dusty rose and this stuff is no exception.

MARC JACOBS Le Marc Lip Creme Lipstick in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Now this was in the sephora birthday gift set but it glides on perfectly and is my color! Luv it!

GIORGIO ARMANI Lip Magnet in 400

This was the first red color that didn't make me look like a 100 year old woman. I remember putting it on and feeling like a bad ass french bitch which is exactly the look I'm going for. Once I'm done with this sample, I'm definitely going to get the full size (until I can find a perfect dupe.)

A: Practicality, aesthetics, and a bit of good ol' narcissism.

___

For practicality, what's good for the environment is good for us. It's cheaper in the long run to prevent environmental catastrophes than to take care of the aftermath. This is also comparable to public health because stuff smog can cause lung issues, chemical pollutants can cause life-long health defects, the list goes on.

It's also cheaper to switch to electric or renewable energy sources (and will create thousands - if not millions of new jobs) and will become even more cheaper as innovations occur and is more widely used.

Then it's a security issue that people have widely considered the root cause of the Syrian Civil War and to an extent the rise of ISIL.

Then Pacific Islanders will lose their ancestral homes due to rising sea levels - which breaks my heart more than anything.
___

For aesthetics, the Earth is just gorgeous - from the old growth forests of Japan to the plumage of the bird of paradise, there's very few natural things on this planet that are hideous. Some things may be scary - like what's lurking in the depths of the ocean but that just adds a certain intrigue to this planet. I can get why transcendentalists say that God manifests itself in nature, because some of the most incredible pieces of art are found not in museums but en plein air.

Then compare an old growth forest to a coal mine or a forest of wind turbines to a billowing smoke stack. The contrast of beauty and elegance is immense - and beauty is basically the most important thing in the world lbr.
___

Now for narcissism...

Someday I would like to have children. I know that may be a hypocritical and selfish statement to make considering I'm aware of the huge impact that a child has on the environment AND the rough state the planet is in. But I want to be a mother, it just seems like the most rewarding thing to be a parent.

Therefore, I want to make the Earth a better place to live in so that my children and my children's children have a wonderful place to live and to never be able to see the beauty of the Amazon Rainforests or see the glaciers of the Antarctic.

There's also a lot of scary (but very plausible theories) that melting glaciers will lead to ancient disease outbreaks (with no cures) and that there will be so much carbon in the atmosphere that it effects the way that plants produce oxygen - suffocating the planet.

I want to avoid future generations from hating us as much as possible and want us to thank us for FINALLY making a change to a greener, more sustainable way of living.

Also, if an alien civilization finds the Voyager One spacecraft, play the golden record and fall in love with the Earth and human civilization - they should have the chance to come here to experience first hand. It'd would be sad for them to come all the way here just to find a desert planet.
___

The future of this planet on the surface looks very bleak, however if you dig a lil bit deeper you'll find that there's a lot of good innovation and progress happening every single day. Think carbon sequestration, 3D printing of coral reefs, Solar roof panels, cities running on 100% renewable energy, the list goes on. If we work hard enough, we can definitely mitigate this horrendous future.

I truly believe that everyone should be an environmentalist.

Welcome to Veritae Vert!

About me

My name is Amelia.

I am a 20 something self-described environmentalist and aesthete. I am really into Japanese, French, and Scandinavian aesthetics and try to incorporate that into my life. I also love music and basically 80% of my day is listening to music. My favorite musicians are The Beach Boys, Beach House, and Lana Del Rey, but I pretty much listen to everything & I curate my own lil spotify playlist Here).

Some of my other fav things are Studio Ghibli, baseball, engineering projects, and animals (especially birds). But I have a small fascination with everything and I'm really the type of person who can talk to you about the latest runway trends but in the same conversation talk to you about the problems in the US Government.

I want to help be a guide to living a glam life but also one that's relatively cheap and has little impact on the environment. My next post will be describing why I'm an environmentalist. ;)

What I Expect to Post

- Cruelty Free, Vegan, and/or Natural Beauty Product Reviews
- Thrift Store & Secondhand clothing hauls
- Spotlights on sustainably & ethically made clothing brands
- Vegan & Vegetarian Recipes
- Things relating to a Frugal & minimalist Lifestyle
- Op-Eds (mainly on Environmentalism and artistic topics)

Thank you for reading and I hope you'll stick around!
